It's August, which means the school year is nearly upon us. So much to do, so little time. I've been listening to Syd Barrett's solo stuff for over a week. It's just so brilliantly wonderful. I recently realized what it means to write good lyrics. Regina Spektor and the Fiery Furnaces have the best lyrics out there right now. It just stuns me that people can come up with this stuff. The Furnaces have this song about how a girl is walking around trying to find her dog. After every verse, the girl sings "my dog was lost but now he's found." Then the last verse goes " I went to the church that Wednesday night/The guest preacher said I bark but I don’t bite/I saw my dog, but he’d seen the light/My dog was lost but now he’s found." The dog found Jesus. How genius is that? Damn, I wish I could write lyrics like that.
